Mrs. Nettie's Pre-K afternoon class

Welcome Back Totspot Preschooler's! I was so excited to come back to a classroom filled with smiling faces :o) Gisele is my youngest and is in Mrs. Gillian's class, she was the only one of my 3 children that could not wait to get back to school :o)

We had such a great month continuing to learn about our alphabet letters. You might have noticed Ellie the Elephant which was made out of the letter "E", show up in your home. The children did a super job on decorating her with glitter and gems. We also made fancy Foot Faces to represent our focus on the letter "F". We have introduced "Number Bingo" which has made identifying numbers so much fun. The children are doing an amazing job at recognizing rhyming words during "story time".

Donuts for Dad was an AWESOME experience for all.  The children were so excited to see the greatest Dad sitting next to them. I loved the reaction of the Dads as they read  a list of questions "All About Dad" which was filled out by their child. Really memorable moments made that afternoon.

We are now preparing for one of the most anticipated days of October.... Halloween. The children have made jeweled pumpkins this week. We will also be making decorated spider hats, Halloween abstract art, and enjoy some fun games for our Halloween party coming up on October 30/31. We have learned poems for the season.  The children enjoy "We are Pumpkins Big and Round" and we will be learning "The Skeleton's are Out Tonight."

This week we spent time on reviewing letters A-F and generating a list of words as a class that begin with each letter. Our class mini stories are always fun to create and the children are doing better and better with sounding out words and identifying letters.

We also talked about the "Fall" season and discussed how the leaves are starting to change colors up North and in some other states. We had fun watching a science project of a tree forming crystals on it and growing through the 3 hours of class. One child said it looked like the trees in the "Lorax". We ended that day creating our very own Fall leaves.

Enjoy the cooler weather as we enter the holiday season :o)

Miss Dessie's Class 'Donuts With Dad'

Right before Fall Break, Miss Dessie's classes got a chance to let their Father's know how important they are to us with "Donuts with Dad."  Besides getting to eat donuts, the kids got the chance to learn more about their dads with a special card and let them know that we think that they "Rock!"  It was a great way to start our break and to finish our letter "F" week.  Thank you to all the Fathers that could make the time to come into our class.

We also had a another special guest come to our classroom during "F" week.  Freddie the Fish, stayed with us in our classroom.   This boggled-eyed goldfish made fast friends with everyone and kept our interest.   Our great students have now learned the sounds to letters A-F and are continuing with the rest of the letters after break.  They have also learned how to write the Capital letters, L, E, I, H, D, U and F.  They are a quick study and the other letters will be a breeze I am sure even though they get a bit harder as we go through the year.

Miss Nelay's two year olds have been doing a great job in class.  Some of their favorite things are our song box, painting, water coloring and of course snack time!

When we were working on the Letter Cc the preschoolers used cucumbers and carrots to create some cool artwork.

In Ms. Monica's three year old class we learned all about different pets and how to take care of them. We had a class pet shop with all types of animals and a vet office which provided excellent care for any pets that needed some TLC. We love feeding and caring for our class pet  "Radar" everyday. We especially like giving him his favorite treats- timothy hay, carrots and apples. He gives us a thank you by squeaking and peeking his toes out of the cage.

In Handwriting Without Tears we are learning all about big and little lines and big and little curves. We have learned that these lines can make all kinds of wonderful things! The kiddos were super creative from faces to suns, rockets, to flowers and everything else you can think of the kiddos imaginations were in high gear. We are just beginning to use these lines to make the letters of the alphabet.

We had a huge bug parade with our pairs that we made when we were learning the number two and matching. The kiddos were awesome at sorting colors and types. They showed how great they are at sharing when they needed a color or bug that someone else had they were quick to help their classmates.

Experimenting with colors and seeing what happens when we mix two primary colors together.  Hands on learning is what we are all about!

We had a marvelous time with our Fabulous Family unit. We were able to take care of babies. Everyone loves the babies.  We counted the number of people in our families and made graphs to compare the size of our families. We have been busy making surprises and learning songs for our Grandparents Day celebration.  The kids were so proud of their grandparents and it was so apparent that the grandparents are proud of them too.
